Below are some of the highlights of the discussion

  • Additive manufacturing is a game-changer in the manufacturing industry, and it has come out of the prototype zone to become mainstream manufacturing technology.
  • There is tremendous development happening in the field of 3D printing, but the technology is still expensive to adopt.
  • The new-age 3D printing machines can process many materials and print large parts as well.
  • Digital manufacturing and industry 4.0 will play a key role in transforming the global manufacturing industry and additive manufacturing will play a key role in this transformation
  • Indian 3D printing industry is shaping up well with many service bureaus adopting high-end metal 3D printers and some companies are launching good quality make in India 3D printing machines.
  • 3D printing is an excellent technology for the Tooling industry that will help the industry achieve speed and quality.
  • Additive manufacturing will not replace mass production processes any time soon. However, as a supporting technology, it can improve mould-making processes drastically, upgrading manufacturing efficiency.
  • Additive manufacturing simplifies the mold making process by making mold inserts, mold components, and ancillary equipment.
  • Skill development is not a big challenge in the 3D Printing industry as within 2-3 months one can operate the machine effectively
  • The future of 3D Printing technology is very bright. I would urge all the toolmakers to gradually adopt 3D Printing technology.
